Here is the second street scene we have already mentioned yesterday.
We encoutered two homeless men sitting with their dogs on the Königsstrasse - Stuttgart's main pedestrian zone and shopping area - asking for a handout. The first guy (seen on this picture) was an educator for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. After some time unemployed he had fallen into the spiral of the socially excluded. The second guy has already lived on the streets for 20 years.
On this particular day they had been sitting there for five hours, but had hardly collected any money. In the late afternoon the temperature had dropped to around 3ºC. It was the german shepherds 8th birthday (the dog on the left) and as a present they had wanted to buy her a bone. She had been a trained police dog, but the previous owner mistreated her, so when the man first took care of her, she wouldn't even let him touch her. Now she proudly protects her new owner.

I love this photography! It's real life in ya' face, no models, no studios, no controlled lighting and best of all no preconcieved expectations. Wonderful two image series you two. Well done! ndiginiz @ 2006-March-9 12:44
Very touching text and picture. Congratulations :) Roberto Amorim @ 2006-March-9 13:46
Asking the dog is a great idea. The image is good I like the low level of saturation gives more of a feel for the coldness of the weather. Fantom Poet @ 2006-March-9 16:44
Thanks for the comments everyone!
@Fantom Poet: To be precise we didn't reduce the saturation of the colors. Instead we combined cross processing with a gradient map. sknop @ 2006-March-9 17:51

Interesting subject. I would have liked to have had the man's right knee in the shot though Jeannie @ 2006-March-10 18:06
beautiful shades of colours too zbjernak @ 2006-April-3 09:34
the expressions here are really good. i agree on the knee, should been in, and with the knee i think i would make it square, crop off from top.The natural color is great.
I would buy a bone for that dog. m a r i n u s @ 2006-June-16 09:19
